Author Help is a small, family-run business, based in Staffordshire in the UK. We work with independent authors who want to self-publish their books, but don’t want to do it all alone.
Author Help’s founder Robin successfully self-published their own books for seven years before setting up the business in 2018. Robin was keen to draw on their own personal experiences to help other writers overcome some of the challenges and hurdles they had encountered bringing their own books to life. Starting Author Help was the realisation of a long-held dream for Robin and with the support of their wife, Jen, the business quickly became a success, helping authors from all over the world with a wide variety of different projects.
In 2020, Jen joined the business after being made redundant from her own job as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The couple quickly realised Jen’s skills and expertise perfectly complemented the business and she is now a vital part of the Author Help team.
So far, Author Help has helped more than 50 authors turn their manuscripts into books.
Robin Phillips
Robin is an established indie author (writing under the pen name Russell Phillips), who understands the daily challenges writers face when publishing their own books. They have been publishing books in various formats since 2011 and have built up a wealth of experience that they use to help other writers succeed and achieve their dreams.
Their knowledge of the self-publishing process, from words to sale, makes them an excellent ally for any author. Their technical ability enables them to provide capable and reliable support for our WordPress services, occasionally even writing plugins to make authors’ lives easier and improve their websites.
Jen Phillips
Jen joined Author Help in 2020, bringing with her a wealth of skills and experience from previous careers in technical writing and software testing. Author and illustrator of children’s book Tessa the Tank, she brings a burst of creativity to the business.
Her eye for detail and love of language make her an excellent proofreader and her head for systems and figures means she’s invaluable in keeping things running behind the scenes.
Awards and Accreditations
We are a partner member of the Alliance of Independent Authors (also known as ALLi, pronounced “ally”). ALLi is a non-profit organisation that works with authors, publishing services and author organisations, globally. They advocate for indie authors within the literary, publishing and creative industries.
Jen and Robin have both completed a Diploma in Proofreading and Editing at QLS Level 4. They both received a Distinction.
